Why it breaks
The part, and what this one does about it
The MDF's original impeller is a thin moulded part that cracks at the hub after years of use, and Gaggia does not sell it on its own: the usual answer is a whole doser assembly. This one is printed thicker at the hub, in PETG, and costs less than the postage on a doser.
Is this the part?
Signs the Gaggia MDF doser impeller has gone
- Grounds pile up on one side of the doser instead of being swept round to the chute
- The impeller has cracked at the hub and spins loose on the shaft, or a vane has snapped off
- A scrape or click from under the doser lid as a broken vane catches
- Doses come out uneven even though the grinder itself is fine
Not sure it is the same part? Send a photo of yours and we will tell you before you order.
Fitting
Fitting the new Gaggia MDF doser impeller
- 1Unplug the grinder and lift off the doser lid.
- 2Undo the dome nut on top of the doser shaft; keep the nut and the spring under it.
- 3Lift out the old impeller and brush the grounds out of the doser.
- 4Drop the new hub onto the shaft, then set the top on it so the flat in its bore lines up with the flat on the shaft, as on the original.
- 5Refit the spring and the dome nut, finger-tight and a quarter turn, and put the lid back. Run a dose to check the arms sweep cleanly.
No tools beyond what the original needed. If anything on yours differs from these steps, send us a photo before forcing it.
Details
What is in the packet
- Fits
- Gaggia MDF coffee grinder, the doser model, all years
- Parts
- Top: the cap with six thin arms that sweep the grounds to the chute (100 mm across, 8 mm tall). Bottom: the hub that sits on the doser shaft, with six vanes (54 mm hub, 28 mm tall).
- Material
- PETG rather than PLA: it shrugs off the warmth of the grinder and the oils in the beans, and bends a little before it breaks. Printed unpigmented or in black, with no paint or coating.
- In the box
- Both printed parts are in the packet; the original screw and spring are reused.
- Made to order
- Usually ready to post in 3–5 days, then An Post
- Not the brand's own part
- Made by RUSH 3D to fit the Gaggia product named above. Gaggia did not make, approve or endorse it, and its name is used only to say what this fits.

Questions about this part
Will it fit my MDF?
It is drawn for the standard Gaggia MDF doser and drops in where the original impeller sat, reusing the original screw and spring. If your grinder is a different model, or the doser has been changed, send us a photo before ordering and we will check.
Is PETG safe next to coffee?
The impeller only touches dry grounds, briefly, at room temperature. PETG is the material drinks bottles are made of, and we print it unpigmented or in black, with no paint or coating. It is not dishwasher-safe: rinse and dry it by hand.
Why two parts, and can I buy just one?
The original is one moulded piece. Printed as one it would need supports under the vanes and come out rougher; as a top and a bottom each part prints flat and clean, and they go together on the shaft. The top is the piece that usually breaks, so it is sold on its own as well as with the hub.
Can I return it?
Yes. It is a stock part, not personalised, so you have 14 days from delivery to change your mind, and the usual rights if it arrives faulty. See Delivery & Returns.
Where does the design come from?
It is 0x64's open design on Printables, published under the Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 licence, which permits selling prints with credit. If we ever change the model, the changed files will be shared under the same licence.
How is it delivered?
By An Post, as a small packet. Delivery to Ireland and Northern Ireland is included in the price. We also post to every EU country, with the postage shown before you pay. We do not post to Great Britain yet.
